John Howarth is a photographer with more than 25 years of professional experience, who specializes in the meticulous studio documentation of historical artefacts, fine art, and product. His detail-oriented approach to composition and lighting is further evidenced by his location work with interior and exterior architectural spaces.
PHILOSOPHY
Lighting is the key to drawing out the details in and essence of the work. I understand the design aesthetic. Throughout my career as a photographer I've had the privilege of documenting a wide range of inspiring buildings, paintings and historical objects. Each demands its own treatment to fully represent the visual dynamism of the subject. I am a photographer who really connects with what I am photographing, by capturing the essence of it—be that a historical object, a painting, or the (ancient) built environment. I have honed my skills in studio lighting and image manipulation to suit my subjects. I have always felt particularly honoured to indulge in my passion for the past by working on digitizing historical artefacts and ancestral belongings, because digitizing these professionally can serve descendant communities and bring new meaning for those viewing them.
I very much enjoy the collaborative approach, and I'm eager to talk to you about what you're looking for.
TESTIMONIALS
"John has worked for our firm and for me personally for many years now. Whenever I require a photograph of an object that shows the necessary detail of its craftsmanship and prosaic value but also captures its sacred nature, I rely on John. He is pure professional with the heart and soul of an artist. He is also a truly decent person with whom it is a joy to work."
